Many people ask why their favorite foods aren't on the robot list, even though they may be considered "healthy" by some kind of standard. For example - granola has a stigma of health, but it is awful and not fit for any robot.
Here is our best attempt at explaining why things aren't on the list.
Food |
Reason |
Lemon, Lime, Oranges, Grapefruit, Pineapple |
The acid is bad for your robot's teeth, and the sugar is bad for its blood. If you want to give your robot vitamin C, feed it bell peppers (200% DV) and kale (306%). Broccoli also has a boatload of C (about 220%). The hype that vitamin C comes from "C"itrus was invented by Dole to sell more oranges. |
Soy |
Avoid. It become hugely popular due to massive advertising budgets around the turn of the century. |
Non-berry Fruit |
Berries are a subset of fruits, but in terms of health they are in completely different league. Primarily - berries have all the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, but without the glucose spike. Melons, grapes, bananas, etc all get your blood all jacked up on glucose. The effect of cherries seems to vary by person, but this is a robot diet not a person diet. |
Honey, maple syrup, agave |
These are sugar by any other name. You do not want to spike your robot's blood glucose, and you don't have to, full stop. There is a case for honey being potentially an exception. |
Olives |
There doesn't seem to be anything bad about olives. This is true for, say, pickles. Or celery. But you would not feed your robot any of these foods because they do nothing, and the things they do, you could provide elsewhere. |
Coconut / coconut oil |
Saturated fat is a very contentious issue. The very recent trend that saturated fats are "heart healthy" is unfounded. It might be true, but might not. Let's revisit this as a community of robot eaters. |
Asparagus |
Eat broccoli instead. |
Cucumber |
Eat zucchini instead. |
Tomatoes |
It's possible that we're all at least a tiny bit susceptible to nightshades. And they don't provide anything uniquely necessary. I know bell peppers are a nightshade plant that is on the robot diet list. It's difficult for me to part with peppers. I'm not a saint here, guys. |
Artichokes |
Eat broccoli and red cabbage instead. |
Celery |
Eat water instead. |
Red meat |
The nutritional value of red meat is undeniable, but there is not enough evidence against the risks of red meat (beside the compromise we non-robots make because it tastes so delicious) to merit feeding it to a robot. Since a perfect diet can be obtained without the risks of red meat, that is the route one should take their robot |
Chicken |
Same with red meat, basically. |
Fish |
There are three fish that could potentially be robot food - wild caught pacific sockeye salmon, sardines, and mackeral. However, their omega-3 benefits ought to just be supplemented via EPA/DHA pill or cod liver oil. |
Dairy |
Silly robot, dairy is for calves. |
